Weddings & Other Ceremonies

Our interim minister, the Rev. Fran Dearman and our lay chaplains, are trained to ensure sensitive, dignified, and personalized service. The non-denominational ceremonies that our minister (when available) or  lay chaplains create are individualized to suit your wishes, and can incorporate varying faith traditions or spiritual practices. Rev. Fran and the lay chaplains can  provide these services to church members,  as well as to people from the community. They perform weddings, infant dedications, and funeral and memorial services upon availability.

In developing rite of passage ceremonies, Unitarian Universalist practices are borne of human need rather than fixed religious ideas or rituals.  In both their preparation and enactment, the ceremonies that result are meaningful and memorable, based as they are on the creativity and compassion of the chaplain, and the spirituality of those for whom the services are performed. Our interim minister and two  lay chaplains serve Metro and the surrounding area by performing:

* Weddings, licensed by the province of Nova Scotia

* Funeral and memorial services

* Child dedications

* Other significant life events

Do you want a unique wedding, created especially for you and your partner?  At the Universalist Unitarian Church we perform all kinds of weddings… gay, straight, pagan, Christian, mixed religions, blended family, and secular.

You may write your own vows and incorporate any personal, creative ideas into your ceremony. Reception space is available.

We'll meet and maintain contact with you throughout the planning process to ensure that your ceremony is perfect for you. Our minister and chaplains will ensure that all legalities are taken care of and that all required documentation is filed with the province.

Memorial Services

Engaging the services of our Universalist Unitarian interim minister (when available)  or the  lay chaplain enables families to mark life passage in a spiritual way even if they do not subscribe to any particular religion. They are flexible as to the location and content of the ceremony, be it at the Universalist Unitarian Church, at a chapel of your choosing, or at a more informal venue.

Please contact our church office at 429-5500 or uuchurch@eastlink.ca to schedule a consultation with our minister or one of the lay chaplains.
