Who We Are
We are people of many paths who are diverse in belief, background, and spiritual practice, yet we build community around our desire to make meaning and make the world a more just and loving place.
We strive to live our values by working for social justice, and sustainability. We sponsor refugees and seek truth, healing, and reconciliation between Indigenous and settler peoples. We work towards racial justice, criminal justice, and climate justice. And for decades, we have been at the forefront of LGBTQ2S+ inclusion.
We aspire to be deeply connected, radically inclusive, actively engaged, and spiritually grounded.
Join Us in exploring what it means to live our deepest values out loud.
Is UU for You?
Commitments Not Creeds
Unitarian Universalists affirm and promote eight Principles. We live out these Principles within a “living tradition” of wisdom and spirituality, drawn from sources as diverse as science, poetry, scripture, and personal experience. The Principles are not dogma or doctrine, but rather a guide for those of us who choose to join and participate in Unitarian Universalist religious communities.
Eight UU Principles
We, the member congregations of the Canadian Unitarian Council, covenant to affirm and promote:
- The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
- Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations;
- Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
- A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
- The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
- The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
- Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part;
- Individual and communal action that accountably dismantles racism and systemic barriers to full inclusion in ourselves and our institutions.
